#114 Building the Lackawanna Railroad
Dennis Martin reprises at The Gathering Place with his local history lectures.
Dr. Andrew Bedford of Waverly was the first to propose a railroad through “The Notch” in 1830. 20 year later, George Scranton started building it. Clarks Summit was created and named at that time to give a name for the station where locomotives stopped. The village and the railroad were connected thereafter.
#115 Painting with Shirley Eagen
Clarks Summit artist Shirley Eagen has combined her expertise and research to develop a medium similar to one used by Renaissance artists. Shirley will instruct how to mix this medium, then will give each participant a hands-on opportunity to try egg acrylic on canvas to see the beautiful finish it creates.
This egg acrylic medium is inexpensive, innovative, easy-to-mix, and easy to clean up.
